Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, the only African-American ever elected countywide in county history (he’s done it seven times!), today endorsed Will Smith for the open D20 Senate seat. Smith would be the first African-American senator in the county’s history. From Smith’s FB post:
Extremely honored to have earned the endorsement of our County Executive, Ike Leggett, for my bid to become the next state senator from District 20. Mr. Leggett has been a trailblazer in our county and I am so very excited to have his support.
“Will Smith is a true public servant. He has served our community as an AmeriCorps volunteer and as a State Delegate, and our nation as a White House appointee and as an Officer in the United States Navy. Will represents the best of our county. I support him for appointment to the State Senate.” – Montgomery County Executive, Isiah Leggett
Five days to go. The latest intel on the race is like a Magic 8-Ball: “Reply hazy, try again.”
