Maryland Scramble has learned from informed sources that what was described to me as an “unprecedented coalition” of labor unions, along with CASA in Action and Progressive Maryland, has made an endorsement in the District 20 Senate appointment, opting to support David Moon. A formal announcement is expected Monday.
The groups involved in the endorsement, which followed a joint questionnaire/interview process, are:
CASA in Action
Mid-Atlantic Laborers (LIUNA)
SEIU Local 32BJ
SEIU Local 500
SEIU Maryland/DC State Council
UFCW 1994 MCGEO
UNITE HERE Local 25
In addition to the endorsement of Moon, I am told that this coalition plans to remain together in making joint endorsements in 2018, particularly in Montgomery and Prince George’s County.
All the information I have heard recently is that the appointment contest between Moon and fellow delegate Will Smith is extraordinarily close. Let’s see if this endorsement from labor has an impact. We’ll find out in five days.
