Day 1442 (National Brotherhood Week)

Tom Lehrer is one of the great satirists of the 20th century. He was most active in the ’60s, but much of his work retains its relevance even today. Still alive and kicking at age 88, one of my all time favorites of his songs is “National Brotherhood Week,” in which he mocks the one week a year when Americans were supposed to pretend they didn’t actually hate all the people they, well, hated. Sort of a more cynical counterpoint to the Bruce Hornsby song from yesterday, I give you “National Brotherhood Week.”
