The whispers and rumors are raging that Martin O’Malley may end up running the DNC moving forward. The state of play seems to be that the Clinton campaign is cool but not hostile to the idea, that Bernie Sanders is in favor of it, O’Malley being a bridge between the traditionalists and the more progressive left wing elements of the party. Most intriguingly, I’ve heard from more than one source that O’Malley very much wants the job.
The timing may be fortuitous. After an extended period of public silence following the end of his campaign, O’Malley will be speaking to the convention tonight – a strong performance should help raise his profile and his stature with the Clinton campaign.
Let’s watch and see – I think he’d be an inspired choice for DNC chair.
