Nine minutes after the Matthews release came this one from the Raskin campaign:
Jamie Raskin raises over $1.86 million from more than 11,000 individual donors in his campaign for Congress
“Our campaign is surging with grassroots energy as we begin early voting,” Raskin says
Today State Senator Jamie Raskin announced he has raised over $1,865,000 from more than 11,000 individual donors in his campaign for Congress, including more than $560,000 from 7,000 contributions in the most recent fundraising quarter (Q1). With a surge of energy and grassroots enthusiasm, Raskin posted his best fundraising quarter of the race since the start of the campaign. With every published poll in the race showing Raskin ahead, he enters the Early Voting period in a strong positon to win and with $624,000 in the bank.
“I’m proud of the vibrant grassroots movement we’ve built here in Maryland’s 8th District,” Senator Raskin said. “We’ve proven that organized small money can withstand the record-breaking big money we’ve seen poured into this race. With more than 11,000 people investing in our campaign, we have been able to communicate our message of effective progressive leadership to the voters in the 8th District. We are encouraged by our accelerating momentum.”
Raskin continues to build his campaign on a staggering number of individual donors, in addition to being locally rooted and focused in Maryland. This fundraising report highlights Raskin’s growing local grassroots support: 63% of Raskin’s total fundraising haul comes from citizens of Maryland, and 70% of his Maryland donations have been in amounts of $100 or less. Fully 83% of Raskin’s total donations over the course of his eleven-month campaign have come in amounts of $100 or less.
“The reason we’ve earned more than 11,000 individual donors and have been endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the American Federation of Government Employees, the Maryland State Education Association, the Sierra Club, and more than 75 elected and former elected officials, including Attorney General Brian Frosh, is because they know I’ve been a relentless and effective advocate for progressive change. I’ve worked to defend civil rights and liberties, to ban assault weapons, to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to improve the public infrastructure and uplift the living standards of the besieged middle class,” said Senator Raskin. “Our campaign is driven by progressive ideas and grassroots activism, and we will raise all the resources we need from our Maryland supporters to beat big-money politics in the Citizens United era.”
The full report will be available on the FEC website later today.
