Too often, progressives turn away from any group that has the word “business” in it. The fact is that increasingly, young, innovative, cutting edge business leaders in the region are likely to be left wing, progressive people. Think Denizens Brewing here in Silver Spring, just for one sample. Why would we want to blow off potential allies because of the word “business”? Isn’t that a really outmoded way of thinking?
Well, yes, and that’s the point of a new group, the Maryland Democratic Business Council.
The Maryland Democratic Business Council (MD DemBiz) was founded in December 2015 as a sister organization to the Democratic Business Council of Northern Virginia to provide opportunities for Democrats and like-minded Independents to meet and network with other professionals and to hear from and interact with elected officials and candidates for local, state, and federal office. Additionally, we aim to host speakers and programs of interest to the Democratic business community.
Next week, the group is hosting its kickoff event at Denizens, one of the coolest new places to open in Silver Spring in like, forever. You should come – I’ll be there too.
